Designer’s pledge

A doctor or a lawyer has to take oath / pledge before he/she starts practising and doing his/her service for others. I believe we as designers should also have some sort of a pledge when we take designing interfaces or design as a career.

For those who have been pledging daily in schools still remember your pledges, if you have forgotten it — here it is.

Designer’s pledge.

XYZ is my company. All users are my users. I love my users very much and I care about their life and varied interest. I shall always strive to be worthy of it. I shall make interfaces, build products that are easy to use and are great in experience. To my users and all potential users, I pledge my devotion in making well designed products & in their prosperity lies my happiness. I will always strive to make the product less addictive and more productive. I will try and be aware of it’s long term implications on human mind and society. I shall not ship shit.
